Custom Robo GX (2002) Review

Custom Robo GX is a Japan-exclusive GBA version of Custom Robo, released in 2002. It maintains the series’ trademark RPG-hybrid gameplay, but changes the battle system to accommodate the limited capacity of the GBA.

The game was originally planned to be the first Custom Robo game released in America, but Nintendo chose the Gamecube release instead. This is a shame, as Custom Robo GX is a great game that deserves to be played by a wider audience.

Gameplay

Custom Robo GX is a turn-based RPG with a unique battle system. Players control a team of three robots, called Robos, and battle against other teams of Robos. The Robos can be customized in a variety of ways, including their body, gun, bomb, pod, and feet.

The battle system is simple to learn but difficult to master. Robos can move around the battlefield, attack with their guns, and use bombs to damage their opponents. They can also use pods to heal themselves or their allies, and use feet to move around the battlefield more quickly.

The game features a variety of different arenas, each with its own unique obstacles and hazards. Players must use their Robos’ abilities to their advantage to overcome these obstacles and defeat their opponents.

Story

Custom Robo GX has a simple but engaging story. The player takes on the role of a young Robo battler who must travel around the world to collect eight Robo Medals. These medals are needed to open the door to the Robo Grand Prix, a prestigious tournament where the best Robo battlers in the world compete.

Along the way, the player will meet a variety of characters, including other Robo battlers, scientists, and even a few celebrities. The player will also learn more about the history of the Robo world and the origins of the Robo Medals.

Graphics and Sound

Custom Robo GX’s graphics are colorful and charming. The Robos are all unique and well-designed, and the arenas are varied and interesting. The game’s soundtrack is also excellent, with a mix of catchy tunes and atmospheric tracks.

Overall

Custom Robo GX is a great game that deserves to be played by a wider audience. It’s a fun and unique RPG with a challenging battle system and a charming story. If you’re a fan of RPGs or mech games, then you should definitely check out Custom Robo GX.
