Summary

Sneak ‘n Peek: A Spooky Hide-and-Seek Classic

Released in 1982 for the Atari 2600, Sneak ‘n Peek is a classic hide-and-seek game that’s still enjoyed by gamers today. With its simple gameplay, spooky setting, and up to five hiding places per room, it’s a blast to play with friends or family.

Gameplay

Sneak ‘n Peek is played in and around a spooky old house with a large yard and three weird rooms: a living room, a pink bedroom, and a blue bedroom. Each room, including the yard, is a separate scene.

The goal of the game is to find your opponent and tag them before they find you. To do this, you’ll need to explore the different rooms and hiding places, using your flashlight to see in the dark.

There are four different game modes to choose from:

  • Game 1: One Player Game – Fixed Hiding Places – Computer Hides

  • Game 2: Two Player Game – Fixed Hiding Places – Players Both Hide

  • Game 3: Two Player Game – Variable Hiding Places* – Players Both Hide

  • Game 4: Two Player Game – Fixed Hiding Places – Computer Hides

  • Game 3 fixed hiding places and 2 variable hiding places. The 2 variable hiding places can change from their standard positions to new positions in the same scene. They change every time a player enters the scene to hide.

Hiding Places

Each scene contains up to five hiding places. Some of them are in really strange places, like inside a grandfather clock or under a bed. Others are more obvious, like behind a curtain or in a closet.

The hiding places change depending on the level you select. There are four different levels to choose from, each with its own unique set of hiding places.

Scoring

The first player to tag their opponent five times wins the game. If neither player tags the other after a certain amount of time, the game ends in a draw.

Tips for Winning

Here are a few tips for winning at Sneak ‘n Peek:

  • Explore the different rooms and hiding places. The more familiar you are with the layout of the house, the easier it will be to find your opponent.
  • Use your flashlight to see in the dark. This will help you to spot your opponent hiding in the shadows.
  • Be patient. Don’t rush around the house trying to find your opponent. Take your time and explore each room carefully.
  • Listen for your opponent’s footsteps. This will help you to track them down.
  • Don’t be afraid to hide in strange places. Your opponent will be less likely to find you if you’re hiding in a place they wouldn’t expect.
