Synopsis
“Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2” (GRAW 2) takes place in 2014, immediately after the events of the first game, just south of the Mexico–United States border.
The game’s plot revolves around a conflict between Mexican loyalists, a Mexican rebel group, and the U.S. Army. The conflict rages across mountains, small towns, and urban environments over a span of 72 hours. The player is thrust into the heart of this conflict, leading a top-secret Ghost team on a mission to quell the rebel uprising and restore democracy.
The rising conflict between Mexican loyalists and insurgent rebel forces has thrown Mexico into full-scale civil war. Under the command of Captain Scott Mitchell, the Ghosts are called upon to face an imminent threat to the United States. The fate of two countries now lies in the hands of the Ghosts as they fend off an attack on US soil.
Much of the gameplay remains similar to its predecessor. The combat focuses on the player doing the bulk of the fighting, while relying on tactical combat instead of arcade-style shooting to overcome opponents. As with the previous game, weapons featured in the game are either based on actual models (such as the FN SCAR) or are hypothetical prototypes.
The player can command friendly units assigned to help them, from their own squad, to drones, tanks, and aircraft. New and improved gameplay elements are introduced, including Crosscom 2.0, new weapons, the ability to have a medic in the squad, and new friendly units to control.
Crosscom 2.0 is an improvement on the original system introduced from the previous game. It gives players more direct involvement in a combat situation as well as more control over friendly units. The most significant improvement to this is an information interlink between all friendly units, which now allows players to get a full-screen view of what any unit is seeing.
Characters
The player takes on the role of Captain Scott Mitchell, the leader of the Ghosts, with a supporting cast of highly skilled soldiers, each with their unique abilities and roles within the team.
Gameplay
Gameplay involves commanding a squad through a series of missions, making strategic decisions in real-time. The game emphasizes cover, reconnaissance, and squad orders to outmaneuver and defeat the enemy.
Conclusion
As a standout title in the tactical shooter genre, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 remains a benchmark for realism and strategic gameplay. Its legacy continues to influence modern tactical shooters.
