Transformers: Devastation (2015) Review
Transformers: Devastation is a refreshing take on the Transformers video game formula, with its comic book-inspired art style and over-the-top brawler action. Developed by PlatinumGames, the team behind Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Devastation is a love letter to the classic Transformers animated series and comics.
The game follows the Autobots as they investigate the disappearance of several key Cybertronians. As they search for their missing comrades, they must battle the Decepticons, who are led by the evil Megatron.
Devastation’s gameplay is a mix of brawling and shooting. Players can control Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, and Wheeljack, each with their own unique abilities and weapons. The combat is fast-paced and fluid, and players can string together combos to deal massive damage to their enemies.
In addition to the main story mode, Devastation also features a challenge mode and an online multiplayer mode. The challenge mode offers a variety of different challenges, such as defeating a certain number of enemies in a limited amount of time or completing a level without taking any damage. The online multiplayer mode allows players to team up with or compete against each other in a variety of different modes.
Graphics and Sound
Devastation’s graphics are cel-shaded, which gives the game a unique comic book-like look. The character models are detailed and expressive, and the environments are colorful and vibrant. The game’s sound design is also top-notch, with excellent voice acting and a soundtrack that perfectly captures the feel of the Transformers franchise.
Story
Devastation’s story is simple but effective. It follows the Autobots as they investigate the disappearance of several key Cybertronians. As they search for their missing comrades, they must battle the Decepticons, who are led by the evil Megatron.
The story is told through a series of cutscenes, which are well-written and voice-acted. The cutscenes do a good job of developing the characters and setting up the game’s conflict.
